While Lake Natron is not particularly hospitable, the freshwater wetlands around its edges are far more welcoming to a variety of life. In Tanzania, near the Kenyan border is the salt lake Natron. That being said, what life does manage to carve out an existence there makes it a key environment. You can reach this unique place in two ways: either during the tour to the Oldoino-Lengai volcano, or independently, by renting an off-road car in Arusha. It is the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania bordering the sea. Lake Natron is a salt lake located in northern Tanzania, close to the Kenyan border, in the eastern branch of the East African Rift.
